How Do You Make Yourself Personally Investable?

We've seen it sometimes on Dragons Den or the Apprentice. You know that moment when they tell the budding entrepreneurs;

"your idea ain't good but you're brilliant!"

Or words to that effect.

And this is actually quite an important point to consider.

If you're in business on your own, or sales or customer facing,  you want them to invest in you as well as your business.

In fact you should be positioning yourself as the face of that business!

Believe me , if you can attain a gravitas that has people hooked, then selling , negotiations and marketing becomes a lot simpler.

At the same time,  your personal brand and therefore stock rises. You become the investment proposition.

People want to be associated with you, companies want you on board, whether as an employee,  consultant or non-executive director.

But even outside the business arena it can stand you well in social and lifestyle circles.

Extending networks of associates in business as well as friends and community interests.

But how does it come about?

Well firstly, if you have an alter-ego on social media, lose it. People want to see the same person behind the keyboard as in front of it.

Be empathetic and personable. Engage and listen but don't be afraid to share opinion.

And it's not all about being woolly and nice all the time either. Especially in commercial areas.

People want to know that the person they're investing time and money in is confident and when needed,  assertive and directive.

Another trait is to be decisive and stand by decisions taken. Even if wrong,  you'll get more respect taking accountability rather than looking for scapegoats.

And all of the above can come into the category of mindset. The desire to succeed and build.

To build a network in which you can put yourself in the middle, thr hub controlling the revolving elements around you.

Some may look at this as power. To an extent it is but I'd look at it as more empowering. The nuance being that it's not just about investment in self  but inspiring investment in others too.

Master that and you have the qualities needed in any business owner or executive leader.

In your actions and direction you become in effect the product people want. If others can benefit from that along with you, then surely that's investment to encourage?
