How do You Build the Route to Your Goals?

It may sound obvious but to start, you need to know what your goals are.

I've lost count of the number of people who strive for "more".

But when you ask them they can't actually really you what they want?

If there's no sense of personal direction,  there's no way to map progress, simple as that!

So let's try do this. The starting point is ... you!!

Your skills, character qualities, qualifications and mindset. In other words the "who you are".

Now the next thing to understand is the "who you want to be?"

This isn't to say that's the final stage of course.

Development of any kind is phased and when certain points are reached, direction of ambitions and goals may have changed along the way. That's fair enough.

But the aspired stage is important as it helps map out the journey.

Once you've done this you need to know why you want to be that person and what you wish to gain. You also need to know what's required to be that person, especial if a corporate role such as a company director for example.

So now it's working back from the to be position with a clear understanding of that end state.

What characteristics does they person need?

What experience does that person need?

What skills does that person need?

You get the idea?

Against each of these assess where you are against the end goal.

What are the gaps you need to develop and how?

What experiences or who can help you develop the skills and characteristics.

Then following on , in what timeline and what are the opportunities available to highlight your progress?

These are some of the things to think about. I know it's adding complexity to the dream but if you want the dream to come true...
