Attitudes Count
As any manager of a large team knows, you will have a mix of characters, skills and attitude.
From the always compliant to the constant initial refuse you know who you have and how to deal with them.
But attitudes across a broad spectrum are not necessarily a bad thing. In fact quite the opposite.
Those people with positive attitudes often get on with things at ease and generally succeed. That approach of let's get on with it.
Some may say "they should grow a pair and push back sometimes"...why?
If they are content and delivering then they are achieving for themselves and the business.
Those at the other end will constantly chip away, complain and spend a lot of their energy trying to get people on their page. In this process they actually drain the energy and become isolated.
Soon they realise that to be for the team they need to be with the team.
This is good because in so doing the team have made the manager's job simpler and a good team dynamic is maintained.
Then there are those in the middle. The conscientious and the sometimes complainers. These folks will largely be committed to most tasks but as we all so balk at others.
Not a bad thing for their may be a good reason for their push back. It also gives you as a manager something to work with.
Perhaps with the reflection of these attitudes you review your decision and see it's not the right direction. Or you , because of the challenge find an even more robust and acceptable rationale to encourage the team.
Either way you win. So if at any time you would like everyone to have the same attitude...you really don't!
