Enterprise & Customer
I love to see enterprise , especially when it is driven by people who start with nothing but a dream and take it forward to build a lucrative business. Not only is this good for them but it continues that learning and inspirational circle, where like minded people, with perhaps not the same self confidence are encouraged to transform their entrepreneurial dreams to reality.
This particular business was a bistro in a fairly small town where it's fresh look and injection of something new to the town, had made it a popular new location for the locals. The word however was getting further afield and I have to say, it would be a similarly booming business in a major city.
I don't know if the owners realised what they have but they seemed somewhat oblivious to it a nice kind of naive way, although I am sure the realisation will come. The formula works. all fresh home made food, with a patisserie dispolaying fabulous bakery. Get up from the table to have a look and you will find someone on you shoulder guiding you on what each cake consisted and how it tasted.
This was just a small part of a genuinely excellent customer service, where attention and desire to please was paramount, yet with an atmosphere both relaxing and unobtrusive. When we left I think each and every member of staff thanked us on the way out.
I hope this approach is not just for the early days but that it becomes part of their customer ethos because it works. Perhaps they realise that with dealing wkith a smaller local population it is important to encourage repeat trade, something which city traders sometimes forget about.
Fact is though that woithout a customer focus, footfall will diminish, even with a bigger market. For any business the ethos must be the customer, customer , customer for in getting that right, your own business objectives will be achieved!
