The Trend Impact

I see the media is back on the case of Volkswagen over the emissions issue. Of course it is brand damaging but I wonder hoe much of this continuation is down to governments and the media with an ulterior motive.

At the end of the day they build high quality, desirable cars which are increasing in their popularity of being the fashion accessory for the modern professional. Will people really stop buying them because they emit more than they claim, especially when there are cars out there emitting far greater emissions ?

I wonder how many of those up in arms would say no to being offered a Lamborghini, Aston or Rolls, all of which have massive powerful engines which eat up the fuel. Would their environmental principles hold then ?

People will buy on what's fashionable and trendy, VW have brought back the Beetle, the new model as popular as the original, their cars are renowned for reliability and being at the more affordable range of powerful and chic !

People will buy on that. Just as the Fiat 500 have found their place in the heart of city dwellers, having their stylish run-around so too will the VW's hold strong and continue to fill the car- parks of the local gyms.

I do not condone for a moment what VW have done but at the end of the day they have a brand which is sustainable and popular. As we have seen with such scenarios sometimes it is these situations which ironically could trengthen it in the longer term.

VW will make sure it does all it can to keep its buying public by making the necessary corrections. This will be positive for the planet, the brand and of course have its share of encticements and improvements for the buying public.
