Rock the 80s
No matter what anyone says, musically, stylewise and even commercially, the 80s was a decade of innovation and still sets the template for upcoming generations.
I've lost count of the number of times I hear some new tune with a familiar and distinctly 80s baseline.
So a couple of weeks ago I went along to an 80s gig with Tony Hadley, Tpau, ABC, Midge Ure,Adam Ant and many others in attendance.
Some were fantastic, (after singing same songs for 40 years they should be?). And some, well let's just say age was catching up on the voice boxes although they were still good.
In the crowd were New Romantics alongside RUDE Boys, something you wouldn't see back in the day.
The eye liner was back although the eyelines for many had dropped a bit over the prevailing years.
Those who couldn't do the robotic moves to electronically back then, were coping fine now. Probably thanks to titanium replacement and general stiffness?
But that's what I love about that generation. When the music plays and everyone's back in that zone, it's like a time machine has taken over.
No matter what we look like now, how agile the bodies are, in the minds of the thousands there, they were 18 and back in some club in 1984.
And nothing was gonna get in the way of that!
